IN VITRO ANTICANCER (HELA CELL LINE), ANTI-INFLAMMATORY, BRINE SHRIMP LETHALITY ASSAY (BSLA) AND GC-MS ANALYSIS OF WHOLE PLANT ARCEUTHOBIUM OXYCEDRI (DRAWF MISTLETOE) HEXANE FRACTION (WAOHF)

Abstract
Mistletoe has been used for anticancer treatment in worldwide. In this research study whole plant Arceuthobium oxycedri (drawf mistletoe) extract and fractions were analyzed for biological activities such as anticancer activity by using the method of MTT assay on HeLa cell line, Brine Shrimp Lethality assay by β-hatching technique and Anti-inflammatory activity by chemiluminescence technique in oxidative burst assay. The structural elucidation was done by GC-MS. The GC-MS of whole plant Arceuthobium oxycedri n-hexane fraction (WAOHF) comprises of 21 compounds which exhibited 69.3% inhibition against cervical cancer cell line (HeLa cell line) with IC50 value of 11.4 ± 0.7. However whole plant Arceuthobium oxycedri methanol extract (WAOME), whole plant Arceuthobium oxycedri aqueous fraction (WAOBF) and whole plant Arceuthobium oxycedri Ethyl Acetate fraction (WAOEF) were inactive against HeLa cell line. The brine shrimp lethality assay of whole plant Arceuthobium oxycedri n-hexane fraction (WAOHF) showed 53.3% mortality at highest concentration. The anti-inflammatory activity of whole plant Arceuthobium oxycedri methanolic extract (WAOME), whole plant Arceuthobium oxycedri n-hexane fraction (WAOHF), whole plant Arceuthobium oxycedri aqueous fraction (WAOAF), whole plant Arceuthobium oxycedri butanol fraction (WAOBF), and whole plant Arceuthobium oxycedri ethyl actetae fraction (WAOEF) were inactive. This study results revealed that the whole plant Arceuthobium oxycedri n-hexane fraction (WAOHF) exhibited significant anticancer against cervical cancer cell line (HeLa), which can be the alternative therapeutic anticancer drug in the future with least side effects and toxicity.
