Abstract

A study on “effect of various concentrations of moringa leaf extracts (MLE) and application time on the growth and production of tuberose” was conducted at Ornamental Horticultural nursery, The University of Agriculture Peshawar, during the year 2021. The experiment was carried out in randomized complete block design with spilt plot arrangement having two factors. Treatments were replicated three times. MLE were applied at the rate of 0 (distilled water), 4, 6, 8 and 10%. Foliar application was done 30, 40 and 50 days after emergence. The results showed that growth and production of tuberose was significantly affected by various concentrations of MLE and foliar application time, while their interaction was non-significant. Among MLE, 10% MLE resulted in maximum number of leaves plant-1 (16.87), chlorophyll content (50.28 SPAD), plant height (101.23 cm), number of florets spike-1 (34.54), fresh florets weight spike-1 (50.78 g), dry florets weight spike-1 (4.42 g), vase life (10.27 days), number of bulblets plant-1 (38.46) and bulb yield (12.04 Ton ha-1) that was statistically similar to the effect of 6 and 8% MLE. Among various times of foliar applications, the spray of MLE, 50 days after emergence resulted in maximum number of leaves plant-1 (16.23), chlorophyll content (49.15 SPAD), plant height (99.60 cm), number of florets spike-1 (32.76), fresh florets weight spike-1 (48.52 g), dry florets weight spike-1 (4.26 g), vase life (9.63 days) number of bulblets plant-1 (37.45) and bulb yield (11.40 Tons ha-1) that was statistically similar to the application of MLE, 40 days after emergence. It is concluded from that MLE at the concentration of 10% was most affective whereas the application of MLE, 50 days after emergence was found most suitable time of application.
