CHLOROPHYLL HAS A CYCLIC PATTERN OF VARIATION IN ARABIAN SEA; A TIME SERIES ANALYSIS OF 19 YEAR DATA

Syed Kanwal
Abstract

This research aims to investigate the spatiotemporal variation of primary productivity in Arabian Sea. The inter-annual variation in chlorophyll distribution in the Arabian Sea assessed in this study and the current pattern of chlorophyll concentration in Arabian Sea region from latitude 0°N to 27°N and longitude form 44°E to 78°E. This proposed research is based on data from the period of (2002 – 2020) and compared with the previous studies during the period prior to (1978 – 2009). The results revealed that that inter-annual variation in primary productivity in the ocean has not followed a linear trend. Further investigation shows that frequency and distribution of primary productivity has appeared to be dense in northern Arabian Sea during 2002 to 2004 and the year 2008, while rest of the regions of Southern Arabian Sea facing low level of primary productivity according to time series data record. This research concluded that the spatiotemporal variation of primary productivity shows a cyclic process in the Arabian Sea.
