Abstract

Potassium plays tremendous role in crop production, quality and stress mitigation. Generally, farmers do not prefer to apply potassium fertilizer in wheat crop. Therefore, strategies to enhance potassium use in crop production are needed. This project was designed to promote the use of potassium by designing blended value added fertilizers containing potassium along with other major elements such as N and P. Total 8 treatments T1 (Zero Fertilizer) T2 (Recommended PK) T3 (Recommended NP) T4 (Recommended NK) T5 (Recommended NP + K as MOP) T6 (Recommended NP + K as SOP) T7 (MOP based NPK blended fertilizers) and T8 (SOP based NPK blended fertilizers) were evaluated in this research. Treatments were arranged according to (RCBD) and replicated thrice. Data regarding growth, physiology, yield, and nutrition parameters were recorded. Recorded data was analyzed by analysis of variance (ANOAV) and the least significant difference (LSD) test by using statistical software Statistix 8.1. Statistical analysis indicated that maximum improvement in most of the parameters was noted with the application of T7 (MOP based NPK blended fertilizer) and T8 (SOP based NPK blended fertilizer). ). The fertilizer treatment T7 produced (80.9%) higher number of spikes per plant, (1%) larger spikelets per spike and (4%) more number of grains per spike as compared to T5(NP + K as MOP). The fertilizer treatment T8 improved the (1.1%) higher 1000 seed weight, (2.4%) higher harvest index, (2.8%) better grain yield as compared to T6 (NP + K as SOP). The nutritional contents of wheat grains also increased in our research by using value-added potassium fertilizers. The fertilizer treatment T8 produced high zinc (Zn) concentration (ppm) in grains (1.5%), high P concentration (%) in grains (4.1%), high K (%) concentration in grains (1.9%), high Zn uptake in grains (g/acre) (5.4%), high P uptake in grains (kg/acre) (7%) and high K uptake in grains (kg/acre) (4.7%) as compared to T6 (NP + K as SOP). It is concluded that under field conditions, value-added blended fertilizers can improve wheat yield and quality.
