EFFECT OF ZINC OXIDE NANOPARTICLES ON MORPHOLOGICAL AND PHYSIOCHEMICAL PARAMETERS OF SORGHUM UNDER CHROMIUM STRESS

Khizar Hayat Bhatti
Abstract

The present research was designed for the investigation of nano sized particles of ZnO under the chromium stress in two sorghum varieties (White sorghum, Sada bahar sorghum). During 2018-2020, the pot experiment set up using CRD design at Department of Botany, University of Gujrat, Hafiz Hayat Campus, Gujrat-Pakistan. Chromium metal was given to the soil through rooting medium and Zinc oxide nanoparticles were sprayed on the plants. There were six treatments (50 ppm Cr, 100 ppm Cr, 200 ppm ZnO-NPs, 400 ppm ZnO-NPs, and 50 ppm Cr + 200 ppm ZnO-NPs and 100 ppm Cr + 400 ppm ZnO-NPs, respectively while taking control as standard. Nano particles of ZnO were synthesized by green tea leaves and used for the foliar application on sorghum. Foliar sprayed of small sized of ZnO particles caused generally enhancement in growth and productivity of sorghum varieties. Generally, toxicity of chromium caused reduction in root system growth except catalase, and peroxidase parameters. Higher conc. of Cr (100 ppm) caused severe toxicity and affected physiological, 0morphological and biochemical parameters adversely as compared to control.
