Distribution mapping of main herbal medicine plants of Albaha region Saudi Arabia+

Abstract
This study applied geographic information systems (GIS) and ground surveys to map main medicinal plants in Al-Baha region, Saudi Arabia. GIS functions were implemented to generate maps in the distribution, and richness of these plants in the different ecological zones of the region. The frequency percentage of each herbal medicinal plant species was calculated. 24 herbal medicinal plants belonging to 15 families were recorded in the study area. The study area is located southwest of Saudi Arabia and is characterized by intensive urbanization which affected dramatically the distribution of vegetation including medicinal plants.
