GREEN REVOLUTION AND ITS IMPACTS ON CROP PRODUCTION IN PAKISTAN IN LAST DECADE

Abstract


The green revolution started in aten1960’s. It’s an achievement in agricultural mass production. It has an impact at community, environmental and commercial levels. Green revolution had revolutionized the agriculture sector which is bread and butter for people in rural areas by use of modified seeds, weed control, use of fertilizer, and better irrigation systems. The 4 major crops account for 75% of production and add 18.9% value to the GDP of Pakistan. Over the last decade, cereal production has increased up to 50% with an increase in the area up to 30%. In each crop year, there is an increase in the production of crops up to 0.5% to 2%. This production has increased enormously and fulfilled the self-sufficiency of the country. This revolution had changed trends in agriculture. Another green revolution 2.0 should launch that will prepare the literate peasants and will enable them to confront the latest technology and join the race of high productivity.
