IDENTIFICATION OF BIOACTIVE COMPOUNDS IN EXTRACT FROM PHYLLANTHUS AMARUS LEAF

Abstract
In this study, bioactive compounds from an extract of Phyllanthus amarus leaf using n-hexane as solvent was characterized and analyzed using a technique known as gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GCMS). Results showed the compounds present in extracts of Phyllanthus amarus according to the type of solvent used for extraction. This analysis revealed the presence of over fifteen functional constituent including phytol, phenol, and vitamin E. Conclusively, this study demonstrated that Phyllanthus amarus contains numerous active constituents, which could be explored for probable novel drug sources from natural plants and make it useful in therapeutic advancement of diseases as well as compounds that may provide useful and nutritive effect in food production.
