BIOSYSTEMATIC STUDIES OF FAMILY CARABIDAE AND SCARABIDAE (COLEOPTERA) FROM DISTRICT MOHMAND, KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA

Abstract


ABSTRACT A study was initiated on biosystematics of family Carabidae and Scrabidae (Coleoptera) fauna from District Mohmand, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pakistan during spring 2020 at department of Entomology AUP and Pakistan, Museum, of National, History, (PMNH) Islamabad. Insect collection was done during day, time by, hand, and with the help of forceps. A vast survey of the area was conducted from different location of district Mohmand. A total of 350 specimen were collected from these site of the subjected area of District Mohmand. Identification of all specimen was done by using literature of Abbas et al. 2015, Mishkat Ullah et al. 2017, and Arrow, 1937. The study revealed 2 families i.e., Scarabidae, and Carabidae of order Coleptera from the area. Family Carabidae with 8 subfamilies 10 genera and 11 species, while family Scarabidae with 2 subfamilies 4 genera and 5 species were reported from the target areas. The species including , Pheropsophus (Stenaptinus) consularis, P. (S.) catoirei, Calosoma (Complita) maderae indicum, Drypta lineola, Amara aenea, Idiomelas (Egaploa) fulvipes, Scarites punctum, Scapterus guerini, Siagona europaea, Platyrhopalus denticornis, Chlaenius (Amblygenius) quadricolor, Digitonthophagus gazzella, D. bonasus, Cheironitis arrowi, Catharsius sagax, Cetonia aurata were diagnosed and identified. All the species are new records for beetle (Coleoptera) fauna of District Mohmand. The diagnosis of family, subfamily, genus, species and identification along with their keys were constructed from their most observable characters. Colored photograph of each species were also provided. Further collection from the remaining areas will enable us to explore beetle diversity in detail from district Mohmand.
