Allelopathy in Aqueous Extract of Populus Nigra Leaves on Zea mays

Dr. musharaf khan
Abstract

ABSTRACT The study was conducted to search inhibitory outcome of Populus nigra leaves on Zea mays in 2020. The allelopathic influences of aqueous extracts on seedling growth, germination, fresh and dry weight were analyze. It was eminent that 20g aqueous extract of leaves and 72hr treatment presented inhibition on germination, fresh and dry weight and radical length as compare to control. The significant effects of concentration was found on germination (F=2.3717), plumule length (F=32.457), radical length (F=180.215) and fresh weight (F=5.7228) between group. While concentration within group was found in fresh weight (F=39.3202) and dry weight (F=29.8534). The inhibition was increased proportionally with increasing concentration and time duration. With time increasing, germination improved with concentration except 20g at 48 hr. The experiments pointed out that extract have chemicals which limited the germination and production. Keywords: Populus nigra, Germination, seedling growth, fresh weight, dry weight, Zea mays.
