DISTRIBUTION AND TAXONOMIC IDENTIFICATION OF BEETLES (COLEOPTERA) COLLECTED FROM DISTRICT PESHAWAR

Abstract
A survey was conducted to explore the beetle’s fauna at ten different areas of District Peshawar during the active period of the the year 2019-20. A total of 403 specimens of beetles (Coleoptera) were collected from different farms of Ring Road, Pajagi Road, Charsadda Road, Dalazak Road, Palosai, Achini Bala, Malakander, Warsak Road, Landi Arbab and Tehkal through different collection methods. During the study 20 genera i.e Calathus, Dromius, Pheropsophus, Onthophagus, Gymnopleurus, Cetonia, Cyclocephala, Euetheola, Stromatium, Crossidius, Batocera, Aulacophora, Coccinella, Gonocephalum, Tenebrio, Zophobas, Mylabris, Rhagonycha, Capnodis, Conoderus were recorded under 16 sub-families, i.e., Harpalinae, Lebiinae, Brachininae, Scarabaeinae, Cetoniinae, Dynastinae, Cerambycinae, Lepturinae, Lamiinae, Galerucinae, Coccinellinae, Tenebrioninae, Meloinae, Cantharinae, Bupristinae, Agrypninae and ten families, Carabidae, Scarabaeidae, Cerambycidae, Chrysomelidae, Coccinellidae, Tenebrionidae, Meloidae, Cantharidae, Buprestidae and Elateridae. All the collected genera were new records to the fauna of district Peshawar while 8 of them are new record to the fauna of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa i.e., Dromius, Cetonia, Cyclocephala, Euetheola, Gonocephalum, Rhagonycha, Capnodis, Conoderus. Keys to the families, subfamilies and genera of Order Coleoptera was also constructed.
