DISTRIBUTION AND TAXONOMIC STUDY OF BEETLES (COLEOPTERA) FROM DISTRICT KARAK, KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA, PAKISTAN

Abstract


ABSTRACT An extensive survey was conducted in District Karak Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from February 2020 to October 2020 for collection and identification of beetle collected from different locations. A total of 450 specimens of beetle were collected from subject area with the help of pitfall trap, light trap and hand picking. The identification of all specimens was done at Pakistan Museum of Natural History (PMNH) Islamabad. The study revealed 3 families i.e. Scarabaeidae, Cerambycidae, Carabidae. Family Cerambycidae contain 3 subfamilies i.e. Prioninae, Lamiinae, Cerambycinea. Subfamily Prioninae comprise of one genus Acanthophorus with two species i.e. Acanthophorus serriticornis, Acanthophorus rugiceps. Subfamily Lamiinae comprises of one genus i.e. Stibara with one species Stibara tetraspilota. Subfamily Cerambycinea comprises of two genera i.e. Stromatium and Macrotomini with two species Stromatium barbatum and Macrotomini spinosa. Family Carabidae contain one subfamily Brachininae having one genus pheropsophus with two species i.e. Pheropsophus catoirei, Pheropsophus consularis. Family Scarabaeidea contain three subfamilies i.e. Scarabaeinae, Rutelinae, Cetoninae. Subfamily Scarabaeinae comprise of four Genus i.e. Onitis, Onthophagus, Diginthophagus and Helicopris. Genus Onitis contain two species i.e. Onitis philemon and Onitis subopacus. Genus Onthophagus contains three species i.e. Onthophagus mopus, Onthophagus Kukurenosis and Onthophagus anguliceps. Genus Diginthophagus contain one species Diginthophagus gazella. Genus Helicopris contain one species Helicopris bucephalus. Subfamily Rutelinae comprise of one genus Anomala having one species Anomala rufiventris. Subfamily Cetoninae comprise of one genus Cetonia having one species Cetonia aurata. Key to the families, subfamilies, genera, and species were constructed from the most observable characters supported with colour images to their characters. Further collection from remaining area will enable us to explore beetle fauna in detail. All species are new record top the fauna of District Karak.
