Abstract

The current research work was aimed to evaluate the allelopathic effect of weeds on food crops. Therefore, the Lepidium didymum L. was selected for the study work and Zea mays L.(Gulabad variety) as test crop. Two extract were used hot water and cold water for the determination allelopathic potential L. didymum. Both Cold water and hot water extract inhabit the normal growth of Z. mays and also affect agronomic parameter of plant. Volume of extract and soaking duration play positive role in the increasing of affect. Biochemical analysis of the plant at vegetation stag show much reduction of chlorophyll a, (5gm/150ml of extract and cause 30.73% inhibition) chlorophyll b, (15gm/150ml of extract and cause, 81.93%inhibition) and total chlorophyll, (15gm/150ml of extract cause, 12.42% inhibition). Sugar content of the maize was also affected (5g/150ml of extract cause 0.164 % inhibition). Protein content of the plant was also reduced (15g/150ml of extract cause 51.51% inhibition). The results of study show those weeds are also used for controlling of unnecessary weeds in crops.
