Analysis of vegetation characteristics under different interference in Taitema Lake, Northwest China

Abstract


Taking the desert lake Taitema Lake as the research object, the characteristics of vegetation under different interference levels of the lake water were explored by 72 large plots and 216 small herbal plots with 6 belts at different distances from the lake.The vegetation data of Taitema Lake in 2019 was selected. The study found:(1)Moisture is the primary limiting factor for vegetation growth in arid regions.The number of plant species is relatively low under mild lake water interference, only Halocnemum strobilaceum and Tamarix chinensis, while under moderate and severe lake water interference, the number of plant species increases significantly, reaching 5-6 species, including Phragmites australis, Halogeton glomeratus, Apocynum venetum, etc. At the same time, the height, cover and density of vegetation communities under severe and moderate lake water interference are also significantly better than those under mild interference.(2)Moderate lake water interference is beneficial to improve the species diversity of the community.The species composition under moderate interference is annual herbs + perennial herbs + shrubs. The vegetation belongs to 6 families and 6 genera. The species under severe interference are reduced to perennial herbs and shrubs, while under mild interference only shrubs remain.(3)At present, the dominant species of vegetation community in Taitema Lake are mainly P. australis, T. chinensis, H. glomeratus, and H. strobilaceum, and with few plant species. However, the species composition is stable and the uniformity is good. The vegetation type of salinized lowland meadows mainly composed of reeds has been initially formed.
