Genetical Analysis of Some Quantitative Traits and resistance to stem rust in Wheat Using Six Parameters Genetic Model

Ismael Khatab
Abstract

The present investigation was performed at the experimental farm of Sakha Agric. Res. Sta., Egypt, during the three growing seasons from 2014/2015 to 2016/2017. Four crosses resulting from five wheat (Triticum aestivum, L) genotypes varied on their reaction to stem rust i.e. Sakha 94 (resistant) and Misr 1, Sakha 95, Line 1 and Line 2 (susceptible). Six populations model (P1, P2, F1, F2, BC1, and BC2) was used to study the inheritance of wheat resistance to stem rust dieses at the adult stage and some agronomic characters under field conditions . The results indicated that the dominance effect [dd] was more important and greater than the additive effect [aa] and additive × dominance effect [ad] for most studied characters. The inbreeding depression values were highly significant negative for days to maturity, plant height and grain yield per plant in most studied crosses. Heritability values were high in broad sense and intermediate in narrow sense for all studied characters, reflecting the importance of additive and non-additive effects in wheat inheritance for stem rust resistance. The obtained results indicated that resistance of wheat to stem rust is a simple inherited trait controlled by two genes pair. The cross Sakha 94 × Sakha 95 would be of interest in a breeding program, for improving characteristics of yield and stem rust resistance.
