ANALYSIS OF GENETIC BEHAVIOUR FOR SOME YIELD ATTRIBUTING TRAITS UNDER NORMAL AND HEAT STRESS CONDITIONS IN WHEAT

Abstract
Abstract Heat stress reduces the yield significantly and to overcome yield lose its important to develop heat tolerant genotypes. To study the genetics of traits, a line × tester mating design consisting of seven lines (ASS-11, V-08203, Shehkar, PS-05, DN-19, DN-87 and Galaxy) and three testers (171-SAW, 9508 and 9495) was used. Parents and crosses were sown in triplicate Randomized Complete Block Design under nor-mal and heat stress conditions. Data recording for the traits viz; days to heading, days to maturity, plant height, peduncle length, tillers per plant, grains per spike, 1000-grin weight, yield per plant, biomass per plant and harvest index was done by selecting five plants randomly from each replication for each trial. The analysis of variance depicted that all the genotypes under both conditions having significant results for all traits which showed genetic diversity among genotypes. Combining ability analysis showed that the female AAS-11 and the male 171-SAW were the best general combiners under both conditions. Among crosses, SHEHKAR × 9495, AAS-11 × 171-SAW, DN-87 × 9495 and DN-87 × 171-SAW were the best specific combina-tions under both conditions. Gene action analysis showed that all the traits were controlled by non-additive gene action except peduncle length, tillers per plant and harvest index under normal conditions, while under heat stress condition except days to heading and plant height all the traits were controlled by non-additive gene action.
