Topographic features influencing spatial distribution of forest plant species in sub-tropical scrub forest Haripur

Abstract
Abstract Topography is the most important factor of habitat that affects spatial variability of microclimate, properties of soil and distribution of species. It has served as a basis for defining habitat types such valley bottom and hilltop habitats.Topography of land has been easily identified by measuring the environmental resource availability and spatial form in plant species composition (Costa et al., 2005). Species traits and their habitat characteristic or association of plant species is linked to topographic axis, the sites which are steeper have greater water and nutrient output and thus commonly have less soil water and nutrients available than flatter region. On hotter aspects and steep slopes the crops is obviously of very poor quality. The major portion of these forests are occupied by grasses but stunted and bushy type Phulai. Khair is very important species and is found in the forests of Nilan Bhotu and Kharala. Bauhinia variegate, is another valuable species found only in karwali forest in limited number.
