Abstract

The research was carried out during the seasons of 2012-2013 in order to compare Local Karacadağ rice variety’s performance which locally grown in the Southeast Anatolia Region with the Osmancık-97 breeding variety in the organic agricultural conditions. This research conducted with the ways of organic and conventional agriculture and it was carried out in 3 replications according to the split parcel trial design in randomized blocks. As a result of the agricultural researches made, organic values showed superior rates compared to conventional applications in terms of the number of days of flowering (82.6 days), thousand kernel weight (31.38 grams) and non-fractured rice yield (61.75%). While there is no difference between the two applications due to the number of ripening days, it was observed that the following values fall behind conventional applications: the plant values in organic conditions, number of tillering in plants, number of bunches in m2, kernel weight of bunches, biological yield and kernel yield in unit area. Local Karacadağ rice paddy variety which is cultivated under the organic conditions performed superior values compare to the Osmancık-97 breeding variety in terms of number of days of flowering (87.3 days), number of ripening days (128.2), plant height (84.1 cm), number of tillering in plants (2.82), number of bunches in the m2 (369.3 piece), kernel number of bunch (56.5 piece), bunch length (15.9 cm), biological yield (13440 kg/ha), yield for unit area (4681 kg/ha) and non-fractured rice yield (64.7%). While there is no difference between the two rice paddy varieties with regards to the kernel weight of bunch; in organic conditions Local Karacadağ variety fell behind the Osmancık-97 breeding variety with regards to the thousand kernel weight. Local Karacadağ variety is a kind of variety that has proved its ability to adapt to the ecological conditions of the region. It is concluded that the use of the Karacadağ rice cultivar in organic agriculture may expand organic rice cultivation in the region.
