Genetic diversity among different lines of Solanum lycopersicum

Alia Idrees
Abstract

A study on 11 different tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L) genotypes was carried out. A statistical design and Randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and Simple Sequence Repeats (SSR) molecular primers were used. Dendrogram was made for both types of studies. The polymorphism recorded was 85% by RAPD primers. The SSR studies comparatively had lesser polymorphism of 60%. The maximum similarity and maximum diversity in the dendrogram made on RAPD data matrix and SSR bivariate scoring were recorded. The knowledge of the morphology and molecular markers benefits in studying genetic diversity in tomatoes and this information can be used in future breeding programs.
