Cyanobacterium Hemoglobin (CHB) promotes the growth of Bacteria, Yeast and Brassica napus, and enhances submergence resistance of Brassica napus

Zhu Keming
Abstract

The coding sequence of Cyanobacterium Hemoglobin (CHB) gene was inserted into vectors pET-30a, pYES2 and pCAMBIA1300. Heterologous expression of CHB enhanced the growth rate of bacteria and yeast. Constitutive CHB over-expression in Brassica napus led to transgenic seeds early germination and enhanced the content of chlorophyll in transgenic seedlings. Under submergence conditions, the bioassays revealed that the CHB over-expression protected transgenic plants against prolonged waterlogging. These results suggest that CHB gene has the potential use in microorganism metabolic engineering, plant growth and system acquired resistance (SAR).
