GENETIC DIVERSITY OF MUNGBEAN GENOTYPES WITH DIFFERENT RESISTANCE AGAINST MUNGBEAN YELLOW MOSAIC VIRUS DETERMINED BY MICROSATELLITE MARKERS

RANA BINYAMIN
Abstract

Single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) begomovirus is the most prevailing threat to mungbean crop in Pakistan which is responsible for mungbean yellow mosaic virus (MYMV) disease in mungbean crop. Previously, one hundred and twenty seven genotypes varieties/lines were screened for resistance against MYMV under natural field conditions. Based on formerly findings, only ten mungbean genotypes were selected on the basis of their diverse response against MYMV in the field. The present study mainly focuses on those ten genotypes to further study of genetic diversity by using simple sequence repeats (SSR) markers on the basis of their diverse response in field against MYMV.SSR markers showed significant amount of genetic diversity within studied mungbean genotypes. In SSR analysis, minimum similarity was identified for genotypes 8008 and Azri-06, while the maximum similarity was observed for genotypes NM-54 and NM-92. The results of the SSR analysis confirmed that genotypes during field conditions produced resistant response and displayed different genetic make-up and this could be easily utilized for the future breeding program regarding mungbean crop.
