INTEGRATIVE TAXONOMIC ASSESSMENT OF LEPIOTA IQBALII: EVIDENCE FROM MOLECULAR, MORPHOLOGICAL, AND ANATOMICAL ANALYSES
FAHMEEDA ARSHAD
Abstract
The present study focused on the molecular identification of Lepiota iqbalii, collected from wild forests of Galyat, KP Pakistan. The Galyat region is a hilly area that stretches on both sides of the KP border between Abbotabad and Murree, 50 to 80 kilometres (km) to the North-East of Islamabad, Pakistan. This study was based on characterization and identification of Lepiota iqbalii. The identification was based on molecular characterization also combining morphological and anatomical studies. On the basis of phylogenetic study, the fungal taxa has the ability to be categorized as a novel specie, but morphological evidence is also needed to support the molecular findings. The data provided in this study may be applied for morphological comparisons and anatomical studies on macrofungi. The molecular data is an addition in knowledge for future taxonomic and phylogenetic work.
