Reproductive Performance of Fischer's Lovebirds (Agapornis Fischer's) in Captivity
Abstract
Birds contribute to many ecosystem services that either directly or indirectly benefit humanity. This study investigated the reproductive performance of Fischer’s lovebirds in captivity in Rawalpindi. Ten pairs of birds were housed in separate cages during this study. The cages were placed in well well-ventilated area and were to be cleaned daily. The cage size was 2x2ft. Birds were divided into two groups A and B. One group was given a normal diet while the other group was given an additive diet in addition to a normal diet, and the effect of the diet was observed. Birds' weight was recorded at the beginning, while birds from both groups were also measured weekly to see any effect of diet difference. The expected outcome of this study was the gain of maximum reproductive potential. Data was recorded on the number of eggs laid, hatched and their weights. The findings generated scientific information useful for devising evidence-based measures to increase the reproductive potential of these birds in captivity. Key Words: Lovebirds, Captivity, Feed, Reproductive performance.
