Abstract
Catechins are a group of natural polyphenolic compounds (PC) predominantly found in green tea Camellia sinensis, have multiple activities: therapeutic and biological. They are renowned for their antioxidant, and metabolic regulatory properties. We have explored the potential of catechins to aid in weight management and obesity prevention. The LC-MS and HPLC-DAD method used to identify molecules phenolic compounds (PC) catechins. FRAP test used for antioxidant activity. The toxicity test made on the mice, Investigations into the slimming activity of catechins in rabbits.
Analytical results identify the presence of 4 catechins (EGC, EC, EGCG, ECG) in PC. The maximum yield of EGCG extracted was significantly (P < 0.05) Up to 60.1 %. PC obtained higher antioxidant activity (FRAP). Catechins reduce considerably or prevent the increase of the physical weight to the male thin and obese subjects and the females. On the basis of the in-vivo effects, the loss of the weight of which is 460 ± 125.19g during 56 days, when the maximum weight loss of rabbit is 613g. The compoents of the EGCG could be useful for the treatment of the obesity.
