Green Tea Nanoparticles: Preparation, Characterization and their Antimicrobial Applications

Muneer Saleh Hamed
Abstract

Green tea, is a popular and famous plant beverage derived from the leaves of the Camellia sinens, although its popularity is still spreading worldwide, is renowned for its extensive health benefits, including antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. The present study aims to prepare of nanoparticles of green tea using a combination of physico-chemical processing and extraction method, due to their simplicity and versatility. The nanoparticles were characterized using Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), and Ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectroscopy. The FESEM results showed nanoparticles with dimensions ranging from 31.57 to 77.48 nm, while AFM analysis appeared an average particle size of 13.7 nm. Additionally, the antibacterial properties were measured, presenting promising results for use in antimicrobial applications. This study underscores the potential of green tea nanoparticles as a natural, effective, and environmentally friendly alternative for therapeutic applications.
