DETERMINATION OF THE EFFECT OF POULTRY LITTER ASH APPLICATION ON THE MINERAL CONTENT OF POTATO (Solanum tuberosum L.) TUBERS

Yusuf Arslan

Abstract

This study was conducted in 2021 under farmer conditions in Bolu province to determine the effect of poultry litter ash (PLA), which has the potential to be a source of nutrients and soil conditioner due to its rich mineral content, on the macro and micro nutrient elements as well as heavy metal contents of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) tubers. In the study, the application of 0, 5000, 10000, 15000, and 20000 kg ha-1 poultry litter ash + 200 kg ha-1 N, as well as the conventional production method of 80 kg ha-1 P + 200 kg ha-1 N, was used as a factor. Compared to the control, the highest values for nitrogen (4202 mg kg-1), potassium (29305 mg kg-1), and sodium (12968 mg kg-1) contents were determined in the 20000 kg ha-1 PLA application, phosphorus (402 mg kg-1) and magnesium (6251 mg kg-1) in the 10000 kg ha-1 PLA application and calcium (8701 mg kg-1) in the 5000 kg ha-1 PLA application. Significant changes were observed only in the iron and zinc contents among the micro elements. The highest value for iron content was obtained in the 10000 kg ha-1 PLA application with 39.10 mg kg-1, while for zinc, it was 64.50 mg kg-1 in the 5000 kg ha-1 PLA application. The cadmium contents of potato tubers decreased with increasing PLA applications compared to the control. Lead contents, on the other hand, showed variability, with the lowest value of 0.48 mg kg-1 determined in the 10000 kg ha-1 PLA application.
