This study aimed to identify and differentiate the chemotype of the leaves and bark of C. camphora from Pakistan, based on their chemical constituents, and to assess their biological potential. Methanolic extracts and various fractions of the leaves and bark were obtained using the Soxhlet method, whereas the essential oils were extracted via hydro distillation. The antimicrobial activities of the leaves and bark were evaluated against : Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus spizizenii, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans; the minimum inhibitory concentrations were also assessed. The ethyl acetate fraction of the leaves exhibited the highest activity against S. aureus with a zone of inhibition (ZOI) of 26.29±1.04 mm. Gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy revealed 38 compounds in both parts of C. camphora. Eucalyptol, camphor, and α-terpineol were the major components in both parts. The leaves had higher phenolic and flavonoid contents, whereas the bark showed superior antioxidant capacity. Eucalyptol, camphor, and alpha-terpineol, the main potent compounds identified in C. camphora leaves and bark, play an active role against microbial infections. As the major chemical substance was eucalyptol, the plant chemotype was identified as cineole. Disable Ginger in this text fieldDisable Ginger on this website×
