COMPARTIVE EFFECT OF VARIOUS ORGANIC. INORGNIC AND COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE FERTILIZERS ON GROWTH AND YIELD PARAMETER OF SOLANUM MELONGENA L.
Abstract
Eggplant is a vital vegetable with significant nutritional and culinary value. Effective fertilization is crucial for optimizing its growth and yield, yet comparative studies on different fertilizer types remain limited. There is insufficient research comparing the impact of organic, inorganic, and fortified liquid fertilizers on eggplant growth and yield. This study aimed to fill this gap by evaluating their relative effectiveness. A combination of organic and inorganic fertilizer was expected to enhance the eggplant growth and yield. The experiment was conducted at the botanical garden of department of botany LCWU, Lahore. Eighteen earthen pots were used in the experiment to study the effect of different organic and inorganic fertilizers on growth and yield of Nirala variety of eggplant. The study involved six fertilizer treatments: T0 (control), T1 (compost), T2 (NPK), T3 (FLF+ Compost), T4 (FLF+ mustard cake), T5 (DAP+ urea) in a randomized complete block design (RCBD). Growth parameters such as plant height, number of leaves, number of flowers and stem thickness were monitored. The results showed that treatment T3 that was a combination of organic and inorganic fertilizer led to highest growth in eggplant followed by treatment T4, in comparison to treatments in which organic and inorganic fertilizers were given solely.
