A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW OF THERAPEUTIC POTENTIAL OF PHYTOCOMPOUNDS FROM MEDICINAL PLANTS IN TREATING VARIOUS DISEASES

Abstract
The primary and secondary metabolites found in all sections of plants, phytochemicals have a unique mode of action that helps prevent and treat a variety of illnesses. When utilized naturally or artificially, these substances—which can include phenols, alkaloids, tannins, saponins, flavonoids, glycosides, steroids, and others—have the potential to prevent, treat, and even cure a wide range of illnesses. This review article covers almost all different classes of phytochemicals with their activities (i.e., antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, anticancer, anti-diabetic, anti-allergic, neuroprotective, cardio-protective, hepato-protective, renal-protective, and immunomodulatory) according to their nature and targeted pathways. Moreover, in this review some combination therapies of different phytochemicals have also been described as these strategies enhance the working capability of phytochemicals and help to provide a strong shield against various life threating diseases. Almost 300 review articles and 400 research papers have been studied to gather all this data. Further studies can be conducted on these plant phytochemicals by identifying their ability and capability to be developed into a new drug or to be used as a phytocompound in treating various diseases. The review articles provides a comprehensive information about phytochemicals from various plant species. These phytochemicals have been used against different diseases. The review articles will serve as a starting point to discover or develop new and novel drugs to cure various ailments in future.
