Abstract

ABSTRACT Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor)commonly known as jawar, great millet and camel crop is ranked as the 5th largest cereal crop with production of over 60 million tons each year in the world. Besidesit’s adaptability to harsh climatic condition it is major source of energy and nutrients. Italso constitute a major source of protein, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals necessary for growth and performance of animals. To meet the requirements of growing population of the world the improvement in livestock and crop sector is required. For the purpose to increase the productivity of animals they should be supplemented with high quality feed throughout the year. Therefore, goal of this study was to increase the cultivation of sorghum crop and to identify itsnutritional value, mineral profile, in vitro dry matter digestibility, pH and weight loss during ensilingacross different locations.Location 2 (AUP) has higher dry matter (24.03) while low at location 1(Tarnab) (20.66) which increased significantly (p=0.0160).crude protein of location was 1(Tarnab) low 6.58 as compared to location 2(AUP) which was 7.82 and was significantly increased (p=0.0128).Decrease in crude fibre values from location 1(Tarnab) which was 32.60to low at location 2(AUP) which was 28.79 indicates an increase in dry matter and IVDMD of hybrid sorghum which was significantly decreased (p=.0001). Location 2(AUP) crude fat was high 2.42 and low at location 1(Tarnab) 1.61. As theDM, CP, CF, Crude Fat showed elevation in chemical composition of silage at location 2 (AUP) ultimately decreased Ash content of hybrid sorghum silage from 10.19 of location 1(Tarnab) to 8.29 at location 2 (AUP) .Acid detergent fibre was low at location 2 (AUP) (42.46) while high for 44.51 for location 1(Tarnab). Hemicelluloseand Neutral detergent of location 2 (AUP)was low as compared to location 1 of tarnab (P<0.05).In vitro dry matter digestibility of location one (Tarnab) was low (54.87) at both points while IVDMD at location 2(AUP) was high (60.52).Macro minerals and micro minerals in sorghum hybrid silage were also increased as compared to sorghum silage at different locations. While weight lost and pH reduction at different stages at day 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 42 of silage occurred due to lactic acid producing bacteria, oxidative reactions and energy loss. The present study indicates that hybrid sorghum silage taken from location 2(AUP) at point A has high nutritive values in term of C.P, D.M, IVDMD, Crude Fat and minerals and can be used as silage alternative to other forages for dairy cows.
