The study conducted in District Narowal, Punjab, Pakistan, focused on documenting traditional herbal therapies used for treating respiratory disorders. The research employed questionnaires and interviews with 73 informants, including native inhabitants, herb stores, and traditional healers (hakims). A total of 93 plant species from 80 genera and 49 families were identified as used in herbal remedies for respiratory diseases. Herbs constituted 53% of the species, followed by trees at 30%. Asteraceae emerged as the dominant family with 8 species, followed by Solanaceae with 7 species. Fruits and leaves were the most commonly used plant parts (26% each). Decoction was the predominant method of preparation, accounting for 23% of the therapies. The information and prominent facts provided in this work were evaluated in accordance with following quantitative indices: Use Value (UV), Fidelity Level (FL), Relative Frequency Citation (RFC), Jaccard Index (JI), and Chi-square Test were used for data analysis. The highest fidelity level (83.34%) and highest use value (0.86%) was for Cymbopogon citratus (DC.) Stapf. and the highest informant consensus factor (ICF) value was for the Lungs detoxification (0.7%). The highest relative frequency citation was for Zingiber officinale Mill. (0.76) and Euphorbia hirta. The primary findings provide valuable insights for developing phytomedicines. The data collected can inform further research and development of herbal therapies for respiratory disorders, potentially contributing to the integration of traditional medicine with modern healthcare practices. Overall, the study contributes to the preservation and utilization of traditional knowledge of herbal remedies, highlighting their cultural significance and potential therapeutic value in managing respiratory ailments.
