Abstract

An experiment entitled “Influence of Gibberellic acid on vegetative growth and yield of the Sponge gourd” was performed at Amir Muhammad Khan Research Farm Platoo Mardan during 2021-22. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design with four different varieties of Sponge gourd (Jaipuri, Dhari Dhari and Pusa Chikni) and different concentration of gibberellic acid (GA3) i.e., Control, 30, 60 and 90 mg/l with three replications. The results showed that in sponge gourd varieties, the maximum vine length (3.61 m), number of leaves plant-1 (41.42), leaf area (81.47 cm2), fruit set (66.60%), fruits number plant-1 (12.50), length of fruit (16.93 cm), weight of fruit (218.27 g), volume of fruit (171.37 cm3), yield of fruit (2.73 kg), total fruit yield (10.66 t ha-1) and early flowering (41.92 days) were recorded in variety Jaipuri. While in gibberellic acid application, 90 mg/l GA3 application were the highest length of vine (3.60 m), number of leaves plant-1 (41.89), leaf area (82.60 cm2), fruit set (63.94 %), number of fruits plant-1 (12.22), fruit length (16.87 cm), fruit diameter (4.51 cm), fruit weight (219.91 g), fruit volume (172.95 cm3), fruit yield (2.69 kg), total fruit yield (10.51 t ha-1) and early flowering (42.11 days) which was statistically at par in majority of parameters with 60 mg/l gibberellic acid. It is concluded that the foliar application of GA3 at 60 mg L-1 And the variety jaipuri is recommended for the maximum growth and yield attributes of sponge gourd at Agro-climatic condition of Mardan.
