HARNESSING PGPR BACTERIA FOR ENHANCED STRAWBERRY YIELD AND SUSTAINABLE CULTIVATION

MUQDAS FATIMA
Abstract

Abstract: Utilizing beneficial bacteria known as plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR), such as Bacillus subtilis and Pseudomonas, can boost strawberry yields and support sustainable farming. These bacteria thrive in nutrient rich soil, especially when coupled with practices like crop rotation and organic farming. In the root zone, PGPR plays a crucial role in fostering sustainable plant growth. They offer various benefits, including making nutrients more available, producing plant hormones, and optimizing nutrient absorption for strawberries. PGPR also acts as a natural defense mechanism by creating antibiotics and triggering resistance against diseases. Incorporation of PGPR into strawberry farming, there's a dual benefit: reduced reliance on chemical inputs and improved soil structure with better nutrient availability. This comprehensive approach results in stronger root system, enhanced nutrient absorption, and increased resistance to diseases in strawberry plants. The ultimate outcome is a plentiful and high-quality strawberry harvest, showcasing success in both sustainable and thriving agricultural practices. This study emphasizes the potential of harnessing PGPR bacteria as valuable associates for boosting strawberry production while promoting environmentally conscious cultivation.
