Abstract

Different synthetic insecticides have been studied for their efficacy against thrips, Thrips tabaci on selected garlic varieties at New Developmental Farm (NDF), The University of Agriculture, Peshawar, during 2023. Two different experiments were conducted where in first experiment, the population trend of Thrips tabaci on four different garlic varieties was determined, while in the 2nd experiment, the efficacy of selected synthetic insecticides was evaluated against Thrips tabaci on selected garlic varieties. Results showed that the pest appeared initially during the last week of January (0.08 thrips/plant), then they increased and attained a peak population during the last week of April (36.27 thrips/plant) and disappeared from the field after last week of May (0.29 thrips/plant).  Among the selected garlic varieties, a significantly minimum mean number of thrips infestation occurred on variety ‘China-1027’ (3.86 thrips/plant) while maximum thrips infestation was recorded on variety ‘Swabi’ (20.83 thrips/plant). The interaction (time x varieties) showed that a significantly maximum population (60.79 thrips/plant) was recorded on variety ‘Swabi’ in the last week of April’.
