Abstract
ABSTRACT A field experiment entitled “Agronomic Performance of Chinese Hybrid Wheat Lines in Peshawar” was conducted at Agronomy Research Farm, The University of Agriculture, Peshawar, during Rabi season 2022. The research was carried out in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The results of the experiment showed that wheat hybrid line 21 BH 04 produced maximum spikes m-2 (405 spikes), longer spikes (10.4 cm), 21 BH 16 produced denser spike (4.1 g) and heavier grains (49.6 g) higher biological yield (10833 kg ha-1), 21 BH 75 gave higher count of grains spike-1 (54 grains), 21 BH 07 produced higher grain yield (4792.0 kg ha-1), local check variety Akbar produced higher plant height (104.20 m) and wheat hybrid line 21 BH 101 gave higher harvest index (53%). While wheat hybrid lines 21 BH 101, 21 BH 54, JM-1683, 21 BH 29 and MY-902 showed late emergence (15 days). Local check variety Akbar showed late tillering (56 days) and late heading (94 days), late jointing was noticed in wheat hybrid line JM-1683 (73 days). Based on the findings it is concluded that wheat hybrid lines 21 BH 07, 21 BH 04 and 21 BH 16 produced higher grain yield and is recommended for registration as variety and later on general cultivation in the agro-climatic condition of Peshawar valley.
