Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze the origin and main characteristics of the common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) and to enrich the collection of common beans in order to be able to establish a production line under the conditions of the Almaty region. Structural analysis of the bean collection by productivity, DNA extraction and PCR technology, determination of lectin content in callus culture have been implied for that purpose.
Early and mid-season assortments of vegetable common bean were shown to be suitable for planting in the Almaty region. The growing period of green beans varied from 71 to 85 days. The most productive beans cultivars adapted to the conditions of the Almaty region were shown. Correlations were shown between total yield and each of the productivity factors, including mass of green vegetable pods. It is clear from this study that in the early maturing cluster, the most appropriately adapted and prospective cultivars were Laura and Luna, which were 22 to 37% more productive than the reference cultivar. At the same time, in the mid-season cluster, the Casablanca (PPR) cultivar showed 26% higher productivity than the same reference cultivar. The study is completed by assessing resistance to anthracnose on selected bean samples by molecular genetic markers implied to the genotypes.
