Bacillus spps. as a Biological control agent against the Fungal pathogens in Plant diseases management; A meta-analysis

Taswar Ahsan
Abstract

Plant diseases caused by fungi have a significant effect on agricultural and commercial crop production. Fungicides derived from chemically synthesized compounds are effective in controlling these diseases, however, their use is detrimental to the environment. Bio-control is an environment friendly strategy. Bacillus based bio-control antagonists are a fundamental part of bio-pesticide science. Several Bacillus species have shown efficacy against a variety of plant diseases. We conducted a meta-analysis of Bacillus biological control agents in order to determine whether they mitigate fungal plant disease and to identify variables that influence their bio-control effectiveness. The analysis was based on 100 studies of 20 publications that investigated the effect of Bacillus on fungi associated with agronomic and horticultural diseases. According to the results, Bacillus subtilis antagonist reduced the disease by 55% compared  other Bacillus species. Comparing the greenhouse conditions to the field trial, it was found that the greenhouse conditions better controlled the disease. The results of these studies support Bacillus's ability to minimize fungal plant disease. The authors also provide valuable information on how environmental factors and disease pressure can be taken into account in enhancing biocontrol effectiveness.
