ROLE OF SALICYLIC ACID IN THE ALLEVIATION OF LEAD STRESS IN BRASSICA JUNCEA L

Muhammad Saif Ullah
Abstract

Heavy metals are a serious threat for all living organisms including plants, animals, microorganisms and for aquatic life. Main source of HMs is different anthropogenic activity, industrial wastes, deforestation, urbanization, overpopulation, volcanic eruption and lack of resources to avoid HMs stress from environment. To find out the HMs stress in plants experiment was performed on Brassica juncea L. Results revealed that the plants which was treated with 10ppm Pb and 30ppm Pb showed reduction in the agronomic character and biochemical character in Brassica juncea L as compared to control. Similarly, the plant which was treated with 10ppm PB + Sa and 30ppm Pb + Sa showed good growth in the agronomic character and biochemical character in Brassica juncea L. due to use of salicylic acid foliar spray. Therefore, I can say that Salicylic foliar spray can reduce the HMs stress in plant during the growth and devolpment period.
