Abstract

The use of halophyte plants in traditional medicine by the population is a fundamental component in the exploration of natural remedies. The main aim of the present research is to contribute to a better knowledge of halophyte plants in traditional medicine used in the southeast of Algeria (Biskra). We conducted ethnobotanical surveys between 2017 and 2019 by interviewing 120 informants using a questionnaire and applying a semi-structured interview methodology. Data analysis was carried out using ethnobotanical statistical tools such as informant consensus factor (ICF), citation frequency (CF), use value (UV), and relative importance (RI), and statistics analysis (ANOVA) was conducted to compare the use of medicinal plants according to the age, gender and education level. The results obtained allowed us to inventory 12 species belonging to 8 families and distributed over 11 genera. The statistical analysis (ANOVA) showed a significant difference in the knowledge of the use of halophyte plants in traditional medicine according to age and level of education.  The plant parts used in the leaves occupy the first place. The predominant mode of the recipe is decoction. The highest ICF values concerning the group of diseases endocrinological and digestive. The highest UV was for Artemesia herba alba. The highest IR was recorded for Citrillus colocynthis. These research results indicate that the halophyte flora of the study area has a great potential for the discovery of new drugs which needs more research and exploration. @font-face {font-family:"Cambria Math"; panose-1:2 4 5 3 5 4 6 3 2 4; mso-font-charset:1; mso-generic-font-family:roman; mso-font-format:other; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:0 0 0 0 0 0;}p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-unhide:no; mso-style-qformat:yes; mso-style-parent:""; margin-top:0in; margin-right:0in; margin-bottom:9.5pt; margin-left:18.5pt; text-align:justify; text-justify:inter-ideograph; text-indent:-.5pt; line-height:103%; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"; mso-fareast-font-family:Arial; color:black;}.MsoChpDefault {mso-style-type:export-only; mso-default-props:yes; font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"; mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast; mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:Arial; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;}.MsoPapDefault {mso-style-type:export-only; margin-bottom:8.0pt; line-height:107%;}div.WordSection1 {page:WordSection1;}
