Effect of different growing media on growth and Flowering of Hollyhock (althea rosea L.)
Abstract
The current research was conducted in 2021-22 at Horticulture Garden, Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam. to examine the effect of different growing media on the growth and flowering of hollyhock. The experimental trail was performed with three replications in a completely random design (CRD) and includes four different growing media include GM1=canal silt, GM2=canal silt + bagass (1:1), GM3 =canal silt + rice husk (1:1) and GM4=canal silt + bagass + rice husk (1:1:1) was checked the growth and flowering of hollyhock. The present study had a significant result for all parameters, the maximum results was observed in GM4=canal silt + bagass + rice husk (1:1:1) plant height (60.00cm), fresh weight of single flower (3.71g), flower diameter (3.75cm), number of flower plant-1 (16.00) and number of leaves plant-1 (57.25) fallowed by GM2=canal silt+ bagass (1:1) plant height (47.05cm), fresh weight of single flower (2.63g), flower diameter (3.12cm), number of flower plant-1 (12.00) number of leaves plant-1 (41.00) and the minimum result was observed in GM3=canal silt + rice husk (1:1) plant height (28.52cm), fresh weight of single flower (1.93g), flower diameter (2.60cm), number of flower plant-1 (7.75) and number of leaves plant-1 (22.50) Based on the growing media, GM4 =canal silt + bagass + rice husk (1:1:1) performed better growth and flowering of hollyhock, the present study that the growing media GM4 =canal silt + bagass + rice husk (1:1:1) better result for all parameters and all results were statistically significant.
