Role of Oxidative Enzymes and Biochemical constituents in Imparting Resistance to Clusterbean Varieties Against Bacterial Blight (Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. Cyamopsidis)

Abstract


Enzyme activity and biochemical constituents of bacterial blight (Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. cyamopsidis) in healthy and diseased leaves four clusterbean cultivars viz., RGC-986 (Susceptible), RGM-112 (Moderately Susceptible), RGC-1017 (Moderately Resistant) and RGC-1066 (Resistant) The results revealed that higher amount of oxidative enzymes (polyphenol oxidase, peroxidase, catalase) and biochemical constituents (Chlorophyll, a, b and total, total phenolic compounds, total sugars content, reducing and non-reducing sugar, proteins, and proline). RGM-112 had maximum polyphenol oxidase content in diseased leaf. RGC-1017 revealed the highest peroxidase content in diseased leaf sample and maximum catalase content in diseased leaf of RGC-986. The highest chlorophyll content was found in the healthy moderately resistant (MR) variety of RGC1017 and resistant variety RGC-1066 had maximum phenolic content in diseased leaf. The variety RGC-1017 had highest total sugar content which reduced in diseased sample. Healthy resistant variety RGC 1066 had highest protein and it was followed by the healthy moderately resistant variety of RGC-1017 while RGC-1066 had maximum proline content, increased in the diseased leaf.
