Abstract

Cancer remains a major health challenge globally, and the search for effective treatment options remains a priority. Phytochemicals from herbal medications have been shown to possess potent anticancer activities, and their molecular mechanisms of action are of great interest. In this review, we provide a comprehensive overview of the various classes of phytochemicals with anticancer activities and their molecular mechanisms of action. The methodology for this review adheres to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, ensuring a systematic and transparent approach to literature selection and analysis. Our search strategy involved electronic databases, including PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science, for articles. We used relevant keywords, including "anticancer," "herbal medications," "molecular mechanisms," and "anti-cancer phytochemical. This review article provides a comprehensive understanding of the molecular mechanisms of anticancer herbal medications and their potential role in cancer treatment. The results indicate that several herbal medications, have shown promising anticancer effects through various molecular mechanisms, including induction of apoptosis, inhibition of angiogenesis, and modulation of cell cycle progression. The paper explores the challenges and opportunities in developing herbal medications for cancer therapy, emphasizing the potential application of these phytochemicals as adjuvant therapy in cancer treatment. It is concluded that phytochemicals from herbal medications hold great promise as potential therapeutic options in cancer treatment and should be explored further. This review provides a valuable resource for researchers and healthcare professionals interested in the potential of phytochemicals in cancer treatment.
