STUDIES ON MORPHOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS (QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE) OF FRENCH BEAN (PHASEOLUS VULGARIS L.) GERMPLASMS

Abstract
This research aims to determine the various qualitative and quantitative characteristics of different germplasms of French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.). The study was conducted at Department of Horticulture, Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar, Punjab –India, during 2022. Total fifteen French bean germplasm seeds were collected from NBPGR, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India. Seeds of different germplasm were evaluated at five qualitative and three quantitative characters i.e., main seed colour, number of seed colour, seed veining, hilum colour, seed shape seed length, seed width and 100 seed weight. For the identification of seed colour, RHS colour chart was used in the laboratory of Vegetable Science at CSK Himachal Pradesh Agriculture University Palampur, India. Adopting a well methodology for the identification of morphological characteristics of various germplasms seed of French bean would be significant in the related scientific studies in the near future and may be helpful in planning and carrying out the various crop improvement programmes.
