CHARACTERIZATION OF ROUGH LEMON BASED ON BIOCHEMICAL ATTRIBUTES
PURNIMA PATHAK
Abstract
North Eastern Region of India is a natural and undisturbed population of Citrus genepool. Along with the diversified commercial citrus species, species preferably used as rootstocks available here also shows a major variation. One of such most important citrus species is Rough lemon. Although it is widely employed as a rootstock throughout the world, in Assam it is mainly used for consumption of its fruits either as table purpose or as pickled one. This paper aims to provide a jest of information of work done under Assam Agricultural University during 2017-2019, regarding the diversity of germplasm in accordance to the biochemical characters by identifying them by minimum descriptors provided by IPGRI, analysing their chemical constituents and grouping them accordingly so as to generate information regarding their proximity. Results of this study, groups the available germplasm of Rough lemon in three main groups which might be contributed by genetic background as well as environmental effect which are discussed with the correlation studies. Sensory studies were also performed to judge the preferabilty of fruits for consumption as table purpose fruits.
