Abstract

Biogenic fabrication at nanoscale has played vital role in the field of nano-biotechnology. The synthesis of nanoparticles by using plants has been cost effective, easy to handle, eco-friendly, nontoxic and time saving as compared to chemical and physical methods. The present study was designed to analyze the silver nanoparticles synthesis, antibacterial, and antioxidant activities using resin of Pinus roxburghii Sarg. The UV analysis of resin extract revealed strong absorption peaks between 425-450 nm. The XRD pattern revealed average size of resin-mediated AgNPs measured as 18.09 nm and confirmed the crystalline nature. SEM results showed that resin-mediated AgNPs were mostly pentagonal while some were found to be irregular in shape. The FTIR results of all the samples showed that AgNPs contain amines, phenol, reducing sugars, tannins and some aliphatic hydrocarbons as well as some aromatic compounds that might be the possible biomolecules associated with synthesis, reduction, and stabilization of silver nanoparticles. Disc diffusion method was used for antibacterial screening of resin-based AgNPs and their respective extracts against four bacterial strains Achromobacter xylosoxidans, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillius cereus and Bacillus licheniformis. There has been an increasing effect on microbial-growth inhibition with increasing concentration of AgNPs. The largest zone of inhibition was obtained with P. roxburghii resin-mediated AgNPs at the concentration of 15 mg/ml against A. xylosoxidans (14.01 mm). The antibacterial activity of extracts was compared with the standard antibiotic ampicillin (100 µg/disc). Antioxidant activity of AgNPs and extract was evaluated using DPPH method. The results disclosed that P. roxburghii resin proved to be marvelous for synthesis and bio-reduction of silver nanoparticles. Green production of AgNPs has numerous applications along with admirable antioxidant and antimicrobial activity as it proved to be the best alternative of antibiotic resistance in bacteria.
