ASSESSMENT OF SEED, BIODIESEL AND OIL YIELD OF CASTOR BEAN (RICINUS COMMUNIS L.) UNDER DIFFERENTIAL PHOSPHORUS DOSES

Muhammad Sajid
Abstract

Daily energy demand in Pakistan is increasing due to industrialization and growth in different sectors. Wastage and improper use of energy also executing a high pressure on energy resources and environment, which can be overcome by discovering new alternative energy resources like biofuels. Therefore, a study was planned to minimize the cost of production through sustainable agronomic approaches to get the maximum biodiesel from castor bean. This investigation was executed by employing Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with factorial arrangements having four phosphorus regimes i.e.  (0, 30, 60 and 90 kg P2O5 ha-1) and two castor bean varieties and replicated thrice. Concluding the finding of study, significant, no. of capsules (109.0), seed yield (1336.00 kg ha-1), oil% (42.45%), oil yield (839.0 kg ha-1) was found where 60kg phosphorus fertilizer was applied in NIAB-Gold caster bean variety as compared to DS-30 variety. However, DS-30 exhibited the highest oil calorific value (44.0 K j g-1) as compared NIAB-Gold with respect to combustion of unit value of fuel. It was depicted that 60kg phosphorus will give more seed and oil yield and oil content percentage in NIAB-Gold variety Keywords: Biodiesel, Castor bean, Energy source, Oil yield, Phosphorus,
