Abstract
Background:
The purpose of this research was to determine heavy metals, cytotoxicity and phytoconstituent contents of Geranium wallichianum, Elaeagnus parvifolia, and Taraxacum officinale.
Methods: An atomic absorption spectrophotometer was used to evaluate heavy metals in ethanolic extract of plant crude powder. Quantitative phytochemical analysis of the plant extracts was carried out for total phenolic and flavonoids concentration. DNA prevention test was carried out to elaborate the toxicity of selected medicinal plants.
Results: Results showed that medicinal plants contain phytochemical including flavonoid and phenolic compounds. The flower, fruit and roots of Geranium wallichianum, Elaeagnus parvifolia, and Taraxacum officinale respectively were found to contain iron, lead, copper, cadmium, zinc, chromium, nickel and cobalt in different concentrations. DNA prevention test showed that all selected medicinal plants were nontoxic and showed significant DNA prevention.
