ANJUM PERVEEN AND MUHAMMAD QAISER*

Abstract: Pollen morphology of 40 species representing 13 genera of the family Chenopodiaceae from Pakistan has been examined by light and scanning electron microscope. Chenopodiaceae is a stenopalynous family. Pollen are usually radially symmetrical, apolar pantoporate, spheroidal. Sexine slightly thicker or thinner than nexine. Tectum sparsely to densely punctate rarely spinulose. However, on the basis of apertural numbers and exine ornamentation family is divided into four pollen types viz., Arthrocnemun indicum-type, Atriplex stocksii-type, Chenopodium album-type,  Haloxylon persicum-type.  Pollen morphology of the family is significantly helpful at specific and generic level.
