OBITUARY - Dr. Jaffar Hussain Mirza - (8 July 1936 to 01 June 2011)

Dr. Jaffar Hussain Mirza s/o Mirza Safdar Husain Qazilbash, an eminent Plant pathologist, died of heart attack on 01 June 2011. May God almighty shower His blessings upon the departed soul and may his soul rest in peace in heaven (Ameen).
Dr. Jaffar Hussain Mirza was born on 8 July 1936 at Fatehgarh, India. He received his early education in India: BSc. Degree (1955) from Agra, India, MSc. Degree (1958) from the University of Karachi, PhD. Degree in 1963 from the University of Toronto.
Dr. Jaffar Hussain Mirza started his carrier as a science teacher in a Model School Karachi (1955-1956) and then served at Jinnah College, Karachi (1956-1960), University of Toronto (1960-1963), University of Agriculture Faisalabad (1965-1978), University of Kuwait (1978-1986), University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, University of Punjab, Lahore (2003-2007) and University of Karachi (2007-2011). Dr. Jaffar Mirza had expertise and taught the subject of Mycology, Plant Pathology, Microbiology and Seed Pathology. He also supervised research work where six students obtained Ph.D. Degree and 39 M.Sc. (Hons.) degree Dr. Jaffar Mirza has also been involved in research projects on plant diseases of cucurbits, diseases of wheat crops, diseases of citrus fruits, diseases of rosaceous fruits, Mucorales of Pakistan, Fungi of Pakistan and Thermophilic and Thermotolerant fungi of Pakistan. Dr. Mirza has published books and manuals and > 72 scientific research papers in Journals of international repute.
I hope we as research students make use of his scientific publications in our future research and teaching work.
