A SURVEY OF WEEDS FOUND IN COTTON FIELDS OF THE KHAIRPUR DISTRICT, SINDH, PAKISTAN

Abstract: A survey of weeds of cotton fields from 8 Talukas of the district Khairpur has been carried out during 1999-2001. Thirty-six weed species belonging to 16 families are reported. The weed communities were recorded from various Talukas on the basis of density analysis. The most frequently occurring weeds of cotton crop placed in the “Assertive” category are Trianthema portulacastrum (76.88%), Dactyloctenium aegyptium (73.75%), Brachiaria eruciformis (70.63%), Corchorus aestuans (68.75%), Euphorbia serpens (67.50%) and Setaria pumila (61.25%). A similarity index (SI) of species has been determined. Most common family representing cotton weeds is Poaceae having 45.74 FIV.
